Rabbit Advocacy New England
Fighting for the recognition of the personhood* of house rabbits. Wishing to improve the lives and social experiences of all domesticated rabbits, who depend on human guardians for their wellbeing and survival and who are some of the most vulnerable individuals among us. Rabbit Advocacy New England (RANE) is based in Western Massachusetts, but the scope of our work encompasses all of the interconnected states of New England as we share a unique, regional identity and future. Dealing with issues that affect house rabbits - including breeding and other forms of exploitation, nutrition, healthcare, autonomy and agency - through the creation of campaigns that reinforce the inherent rights of house rabbits and address specific dangers and inequities levied.
*Personhood is a social and legal concept tied to equality and liberty. A legal person is conferred rights and protections; in a social context, personhood confers moral consideration. Being a "natural person" is largely conflated with being human and although all humans are people, not all people are humans! Nonhuman animals - like house rabbits - are sentient individuals who have inherent rights and innate value; nonhuman animals are deprived of their personhood essentially so that we may trespass against their interests , in service of our own, without redress .
